Lithuanian Cup holders FC Stumbras faced famous Russian club FC Zenit and showed character and real team spirit but in the end lost with 0:2 (0:1).
Mariano Barreto’s side started the game well and earned corned in the very first minutes. Zenit controlled the ball but it was Stumbras who had to score first. Lucas Villela with absolutely stunning move created chance for himself but goalkeeper Yury Lodygin was fantastic and saved the shot. However Nasro Bouchareb was the first on the ball but couldn’t beat experienced goalkeeper who made one more unbelievable save.
Just a couple of minutes later Stumbras conceded goal. After cross from the left side captain Rimvydas Sadauskas was very unlucky to send the ball into the own net. It was misunderstanding between him and goalkeeper (0:1).
In the second half Zenit proved their class and earned a penalty. However, Zenit star player Leandro Paredes missed from the spot. But it was Paredes who converted free kick into amazing goal at 62th minute (0:2).
Despite many stars in Zenit lineup, Stumbras had some dangerous shots and showed very solid performance. Kaunas team controlled the ball well and tried to use their opportunities.
